About Us

The Examining Board of Natural Medicine Practitioners Inc. was established in 1998 in Canada. It developed into the Examining Board of Natural Medicine Practitioners Canada, a Non-Legislated Healthcare Association for Practitioners of Natural Healing® and Natural Medicine Practitioners©, under the umbrella and affiliate of Examining Board of Natural Medicine.

Our mission is to safeguard the identity and services of our members who are registered in the province and state where they provide their service, according to their educational level and standard of practice.

Our registered members' qualifications are comparable, with many being on a Diplomate level.  The American Organization, EBNMP LLC, governs International Practitioners of Natural Healing®.

All our members are Traditional/Complementary/Alternative/Naturotherapy-Natural Medicine Practitioners who adhere to the principles of Natural Medicine Healing, employed without the use of drugs, medical procedures, operations or surgery.

Some TM/CAM-Naturotherapy Practitioners are still unregulated, and this has led to a number of inexperienced individuals in the field of Practice. People seeking health and wellness mostly have no way of differentiating between qualified Practitioners of Natural Medicine, hence our mission is to create a greater awareness of professionalism, ethics, educational standards, and scope of practice, to protect the public and to support the growing need for an evolving, well-rounded health care system.

General term of Naturopath

Public information

Naturopath is a term that has been used by the general public and medical professions to sometimes inaccurately refer to a naturopathic doctor or ND. Considered a non-specific term, the name Naturopath has been in use for over 100 years and it has been recently adopted by Insurance Companies  and used interchangeably with naturopathic doctor.

The term naturopath has carried over and was applied to non-medically trained Traditional naturopath health providers and Naturotherapist graduates of non-accredited naturopathy schools, or grandfathered in practitioners. Currently, Naturotherapist practice in regulated jurisdictions, so long as they do not hold themselves out to be a Naturopath, although some may have comparative training but not the same privileges as that of a ND. Recently, due to regulations in some provinces there is now a clear distinction between Naturopath and Naturotherapy practitioner or Naturotherapist.

Due to the long history of philosophical and now legal disagreements on Naturopathy, naturopaths  and Naturotherapist  there is now an undermined progress of Alternative Health Care. Unfortunately, the public has generally not been aware of the differences between the two groups, now that legal differences exist.

In Canada, the provinces that control naturopathic medicine allow for the Title of  licensed naturopathic doctors. In unregulated provinces Naturopaths are acknowledged and equal to ND, while Naturotherapist or Naturotherapy practitioners with various levels of professional education are  classified as Alternative level of Care or TM-Naturotherapy providers.

Members of EBNMP Canada, who have attained the Titles Diplomate of Natural Medicine  (DNM®) designation or Registered Naturotherapy Practitioner (RNP®) which are Trademarked Titles and does not indicate a graduate degree or allows for the use of the name or Title of Doctor or Naturopath; may sometimes be able to be considered as qualified to have their services paid for by a patient’s health plan.  Most insurance companies accept paper billing under the category of other. Membership does not guarantee billing to be paid for by the patient’s insurance, however EBNM continues to present our level of care specialists for acceptance in their category, to the newly emerging e-claims platforms.
